Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Bill 2020
In November 2020, CLM partnered with the Society of St Vincent de Paul and the Jesuit Centre for Faith and Justice to make a submission on the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development (Amendment) Bill.
The submission focused on climate justice and made recommendations on how to amend the Bill to place a stronger obligation on the State to ensure that the specific needs of those experiencing poverty, inequality or social exclusion are taken into account when developing climate and sustainable development policies.
We have monitored the progress of the Bill through the various legislative stages and, in May 2021, ahead of Committee stage, we made a further submission to TDs, requesting that five amendments to the Bill focusing on climate justice and just transition be included.
The original submission can be read in full here and our proposed Amendments (as the Bill proceeds to Committee stage) can be read here.
