Social welfare – Overpayments

An overpayment of rent supplement had been wrongly attributed to our clients in connection with a previous tenancy.  Although they never received the payment (as it was made directly to their former landlord), the Department of Social Protection started making deductions from another social welfare payment of our clients for this alleged overpayment, without informing our clients.

We assisted them to make an appeal to the Social Welfare Appeals Office. The appeal was successful, and our clients were found not liable for the overpayment.

Since new regulations were introduced in April 2025, all social welfare decisions can be appealed within 60 days from the date of notification. Find out more about the updated Social Welfare Appeals Regulations here.
