Social Welfare Appeals (an overview)

On this one-day training course we will bring you through the following,

• Entitlements & the Habitual Residence Condition
• Overpayments
• Social Welfare Appeals
• Judicial Review in Social Welfare Appeal

CLM has specialised in social welfare law over the years, and we recognise the fundamental importance of this area of law in addressing underlying issues of injustice and exclusion. We have taken some important social welfare cases and have worked in reforming law and policy in the area, including an annual roundtable on various themes within social welfare law, e.g. children & social welfare, mental health & social welfare.

Currently, the civil legal aid scheme does not cover appeals taken to the Social Welfare Appeals Office, creating a serious barrier to people accessing justice in social welfare law.

This training will provide an overview of the law in the area of social welfare appeals and will provide information and practical tips on providing advocacy and representation to individuals who are experiencing difficulties in claiming entitlements.

Dates: This one day training will be spilt into 2 half days – Tuesday 8 March & Wednesday 9 March

Time: 10am to 1pm (both days)
